This month we are spotlighting Dekeia R. who works in St. Louis as a DSP. She has been an ADC team member for almost 11 months now. We appreciate Dekeia because she is always willing to help out; she comes in at a moment’s notice. Dekeia takes care of the residents like they are her own family, and she is a very good advocate for them.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Austen-Dooley?
A: Bonding with residents and creating a relationship. I really like the companionship I build with them.
Q: What is one piece of advice for others in your profession?
A: Only do it if you have a passion for helping people. Don’t get overwhelmed; some residents may not be nice at times, but don’t let that discourage you. Keep going; we are here for them. It’s a good field to work in, and Austen-Dooley is a good company to work for.
Q: Who in your life inspires you and why?
A: My mom inspires me because she was the one who introduced me to the healthcare profession. She is a nurse, and seeing her help people made me want to do it too.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
A: I’m in nursing school right now, so outside of work I’m usually doing homework. I have do a lot of research. ADC gives me hands on experience with stuff I’ll be doing in the future. A lot of things I do at work, people in my classes haven’t done, so it gives me a leg up. I think it’s a win win situation.
Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?
A: In regards to work, I really genuinely care about my residents. It’s not just a job to me, and I am not just in the healthcare field for the money. I like building relationships at work. Outside of work, I’m really outgoing, and I get along with a lot of people. I am definitely an extrovert. I am a very empathetic person, and I really understand what people are going through; I feel like that makes me a good friend and family member.
