This month we are spotlighting Tammy W. who works in Kansas City as a DSP. She has been an ADC team member for 5 years this August! We appreciate Tammy because she is a very dependable and reliable team member who the residents know they can count on. Tammy has stepped up for our residents multiple times, advocating for one individual who had difficulties adjusting to her new home, and staying by another individual’s side when he was put on hospice care. Tammy’s manager Veronica said, “Tammy Wright is everything right about Berglund.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Austen-Dooley?

A: Meeting different people, like my coworkers. To me what I do is like a calling; I am serious about what I do. I put myself in the resident’s shoes, and I want no one to mistreat them. I’ve been doing this work for a long time. I love taking care of people. I love to see the results.

Q: What is one piece of advice for others in your profession?

A: You must have tolerance, patience, and endurance. Those three things will take you a long way. You must love what you do and be a people person.

Q: Who in your life inspires you and why?

A: My grandmother and my father. They were very caring people. I always watched them do things for other people. One time my father was standing in line at a store, and he saw an elderly man drop his wallet that was full of cash in the parking lot. My father jumped in his car, found the man, and gave him his wallet. The elderly man told him he didn’t have to go through all that trouble, but my father told him it was the right thing to do. I always saw my grandmother praying with and for other people. My grandma also had a garden and would cook and feed people in the neighborhood, like kids that didn’t have anything to eat. The way they cared for people truly inspired me.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

A: Relax. I am homebody.

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?

A: I truly have a heart. Looking at me and first meeting me, I might not look like it, but I will go out my way to help you if need be.
